St Martin Villa Rentals

My adventures with St Martin Island

I love the Caribbean
Once a year my wife and I rent a villa on the island of St. Martin for two weeks. All year, that’s all we think about consistently. We spend our mornings soaking in the hot sun on the white sandy beach. I love to go snorkeling and she likes to lie in a hammock and read. The last time we were there, I swam out about a hundred yards. A stingray the size of a small car swam about five feet beneath me. At first, I was scared. I froze in place as it glided by me without even acknowledging my existence. It was awesome.

In the afternoons, my wife likes to go shopping at Phillipsburg. It’s the shopping Mecca of St. Maarten that Oprah likes because of the “blooming bags.” We spend hours at a time browsing through the local arts and crafts. Everywhere we go, the vendors are eternally enthusiastic.

At night, there are plenty of nightclubs and casinos scattered throughout the island. Personally, I prefer sitting at a nice restaurant while enjoying live music from a local band. Nothing beats food and music.

I am kind of a history buff. I am constantly searching for historical sites to explore. One of my favorite historical spots on the island of Sint Maarten is the Fort St. Louis on Marigot Bay. It’s a bit of a steep climb to get there. Once there the view is amazing. King Louis the XVI ordered the construction while in Versailles. The fort has been occupied by both French and Dutch troops.

Another one of my favorite places to visit is the St. Maarten museum in Phillipsburg. The Caribbean is full of exciting history from pre-Columbus all the way to the present. Every time we go, we find something else exciting to do.
